Mayrhofen - the classic resort in the Zillertal valley

The Zillertal is well-known for its typical folk music. This sort of music might not be everyone's taste but the ski resorts in the Zillertal valley in Tyrol are beyond doubt among the best ski areas in Austria. Zillertal Hochfügen, Zillertalarena, Mayrhofen and Hintertuxer Glacier are certainly four top-notch ski resorts. Mayrhofen is my favourite resort in the Zillertal valley but not only because of the really good apres ski parties. There are a lot of things you can't do anywhere else. For example the "Harakiri" run in the "Penken" area is the steepest groomed slope in Austria. The downgrade is 78% in average! That's why grooming this slope is not that easy. A special snow groomer with a cable winch has to do this job. Another great experience is the "White Lounge" situated at the "Ahorn" area. These are igloos where you can book a overnight stay.

Mayrhofen offers a total of 159km of groomed slopes. This figure shows that it surely is not one of the biggest resorts in Austria. But the variety of slopes is certainly big enough to spend a long vacation at Mayrhofen. More than half of the runs (94km) are of intermediate difficulty. Therefore the resort especially caters to the intermediate skier or snowboarder which have some experience on the slopes. But there is also the "Ahorn" area which is not connected by slope with the rest of the resort. It offers a superb practicing space for beginners. My personal experience is that especially the warm-hearted people and the uncomparable flair of the Zillertal valley make sure that the stay at Zillertal is always a really good experience. Mayrhofen should definitely be on everyone's list of destinations for every season!
