Kitzbühel - suitable for beginners and intermediate skiers
The famous ski resort Kitzbühel is a 100km drive from Innsbruck and 80 km from Salzburg and belongs worldwide to the best
known resorts. With its 163 km of trails Kitzbühel offers 100km less terrain than for instance St. Anton but still belongs
to the larger ski resorts in Austria. Kitzbühl village is located amidst the soft Kitzbühel Alps which are less steep and
less rocky than large parts of Tyrol. Thus steeps like the famous Hahnenkamm (Streif) are just as likely to be found in
the resort as easier terrain. Amongst the most beautiful gentle trails are the long Fleck (25), Kaser (26), Brunn (27) and
Pengelstein 2 (30). However unskilled skiers might find it difficult to get to the easy slopes as they must cross some
difficult terrain on the way there.
In order to tap the whole potential of the ski resort it is necessary to have at least some skiing or riding experience.
An absolute must for technical riders and skiers is the legendary Streif, scene of the Hahnenkamm race. Another highlight in
Kitzbühel is the 3S Gondola which communicates the 1500m high Wurzhöhe and the 1938m high Pengelstein. The glas-floor gondola
takes winter sports fans back and forth from Kitzbühel to the Jochberg subarea. It not need to be mentioned that Kitzbühel is
an Après Ski hot spot. Accomodations are available for both those seeking high class and luxury or those with a very limited budget.
