Flachau - scene of the Fis worldcup and home town of Hermann Maier
At first I wasn't sure if Flachau is suitable for this blog. Together with Wagrain the resort ffers 111 km of groomed terrain but it
does not belong to the most famous ski resorts in Austria. I decided to report on the resort nevertheless, simply because it belongs
to my favourite ski resorts! To be mentioned in this context are the very modern lift facilities. Of the 42 liftfacilities, 17 are
modern chair lifts, and 7 are gondolas. Thus fast transportation up and around the mountain is guaranteed even on busier days!
Of the 111 km of trails 74 km are earmarked intermediate terrain. I believe novice skiers can have just as much fun as intermediate
skiers in Flachau. A total of 19 huts and mountain restaurant see to the wellbeing of winter athletes and are a perfect destination
to let the day out on the slopes wind down on a comfy note. A Hütten (alpine hut) standout is the Munzenhof at the foot of the
"Space Jet 2" which features wonderful Austrian comfy rustic alpine flair. All those who want the day to end on a more exciting
note should check out the Apres Ski location "Purzelbaumalm" and the "Dampfkessel"".
